Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 14, 2026

SideNote is a free Chrome extension that adds threaded subconversations to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This policy explains what data SideNote handles and how.

What data SideNote collects

SideNote does not collect any data. Specifically:

Where your data is stored

SideNote stores your thread data — including subthread messages, highlighted text anchors, and conversation metadata — exclusively in your browser using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This data lives only on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

What data leaves your browser

When you send a message in a SideNote subthread, that message is sent to the AI platform you are currently using (ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) — exactly as if you had typed it directly into that platform. SideNote does not intercept, log, or forward this data. The AI platform's own privacy policy governs how it handles your messages.

Permissions

SideNote requests only the permissions required to function:

SideNote does not request access to your browsing history, passwords, clipboard, or any other websites.

Third-party services

SideNote does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The extension makes no network requests to any server outside of the AI platforms you are already using.

Children's privacy

SideNote does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
